Travelling solo can be quite liberating and adventurous. At the same time, it can also be intimidating! Here are a few tips to make your trip safer, smoother and enjoyable.
1. Travel during the day
It’s true that more untoward incidents happen at night. If you are embarking on a long journey ensure that you reach your destination during the day. It will be easy to find your hotel with (or without) minimal help.
2. Book your hotel in a crowded area
A crowd may not be so off putting after all. You’ll never be alone and mishaps are less likely to happen. A market nearby also means you don’t have to travel far for basic necessities.
3. Read the reviews
Prior to booking your hotel, do your homework of reviews posted by other guests. Many times the pictures put out on the website can mislead; don’t believe everything you see!
4. Avoid skimpy clothes
It’s better to blend in than to stand out in an unknown territory. Skimpy clothes may draw unnecessary attention. Wear outfits that you are comfortable in and feel confident about.
5. Stay active on social media
Let your friends know where you are with posts on FB, Insta, Twitter and WhatsApp. Not only will your family and friend be assured of your safety but they will know where to reach you, in case things of an unfortunate turn of events.
6. Avoid flashing expensive belongings
Be cautious of your phone, camera, and laptop. Take them out only when necessary and keep these things within easy reach along with your passport and wallet.
